The country icon for Birds of Vietnam at Sibagu is , combining two orthographic forms of the Vietnamese word for 'bird', Chim. One is the now obsolete Chữ Nôm form,
, which is based on the Chinese writing system. The Chữ Nôm form combines the character 占 (chiêm or chiếm), used for its pronunciation, with the character 鳥 (meaning 'bird', with the Sino-Vietnamese reading diều) as a semantic marker. The other orthographic form is the modern Vietnamese Quốc Ngữ spelling Chim. Quốc Ngữ is a romanised system originally introduced by the Portuguese and later adopted by the French and by Vietnamese nationalists in order to promote literacy among the people. Thanks to the Chu Nom website for providing the correct Chữ Nôm character for Chim.
