The only member of this family found in Mongolia is the Dollarbird, which is known in Mongolian as the Эрдэнийн шувуу erdeniŋ shuvuu 'precious bird' or 'jewel bird', or as the Сүсэгт шувуу süsegt shuvuu 'pious bird' (also Сүсэгт süsegt 'pious'). The Dollarbird has only recently appeared in Mongolian ornithological lists (15) and is given in the run-together form Эрдэнийншувуу erdeniŋ-shuvuu. The family name is given as Зүсэг züseg, unknown to dictionaries and possibly related to Сүсэгт süsegt.

Inner Mongolian sources use Сүсэгт шувуу süsegt shuvuu 'pious bird' for the Dollarbird. While this name is not used in ornithological lists in Mongolia, a large Mongolian dictionary is clearly referring to the Dollarbird when it defines Сүсэгт süsegt as 'a kind of bird with black head and neck and darkbluish plumage'.

Both names have a relationship to Buddhism and have possibly been influenced by the Chinese name of the Dollarbird, 三宝鸟 sān-bǎo-niǎo 'three jewels bird' or 佛法僧 fó-fǎ-sēng 'Buddha-law-monk', which ultimately derive from Japanese.
