Ornithologically, the Malaysian naming of the Golden-bellied Gerygone differs according to the authority.
Some sources call it a kind of warbler (Burung Cekup), based on the Malay name for birds known as 'warblers' in English. (This name is used at a wide range of families, including the Cisticolidae, Acrocephalidae, Locustellidae, Phylloscipidae, Scotocercidae, and Vireonidae).
Others call it Burung Kelicap 'twitterer (bird)', a term used for the sunbirds and spiderhunters (Nectariniidae) and Black-naped Monarch (Monarchidae).
Indonesian naming
Indonesian ornithological naming assigns the gerygones the unique genus name of Burung Remetuk (onomatopoeic, glossed here as 'chatterer').
