Mongolian dictionaries and birdlists give a number of names for the goldcrests or kinglets. In some cases the same name can be or has been used for small passerine birds in other families:
- Задуулай zaduulai (also Задуулай бялзуухай zaduulai byalzuukhai, Жадуулай jaduulai). This name traditionally referred to the Great Tit (Paridae) and is still used for this family in Inner Mongolia.
- Цэндгий tsendgii. According to some dictionaries (including Schmidt's Mongolisch-Deutsch-Russisches Wörterbuch of 1835), this term refers to the Wren or 'Zaunkönig'. This is possibly due to confusion in Europe between the wren and the kinglet, both of which were traditionally said to have won a contest by flying higher than an eagle. The name Цэндгий tsendgii is also used for the Whiteeyes (Zosteropidae) in Inner Mongolia.
- Шар мэлзэн танан бялзуухай shar melzen tanaŋ byalzuukhai, which means 'yellow bald mother-of-pearl finch' is used in the older ornithological names. The word Бялзуухай byalzuukhai, here translated as 'finch', refers generally to small passerine songbirds.
- The family name, Тананцарынхан tanantsarinkhaŋ, also contains the word Тананцар tanantsar, which means 'pearl-like'.
In the 2007 'binomial' names, the name Задуулай zaduulai is used for the genus Regulus.
Inner Mongolia
- The Inner Mongolian ornithological name of the Goldcrest is Уралдай uraldai. This name is also used for one of the Prinias (Cisticolidae) and possibly reflects an earlier taxonomic grouping between the Prinias and Goldcrests. Уралдай uraldai appears to be a portmanteau of Уран шувуу uraŋ shuvuu 'wren' and Гургалдай gurgaldai 'oriole' or 'warbler', probably coined on the model of Chinese 鹪莺 jiāo-yīng 'wren-warbler', which is in turn modelled on the older English name for the prinias, 'wren warbler'.
- Another Inner Mongolian name is Өвөгт зэржигэн övögt zarjkhiŋ 'crested warbler', which treats the Goldcrest as a kind of warbler.

The name Гургалдай gurgaldai is traditionally applied to a range of birds famous for their song, including orioles, robins, and nightingales. For convenience, the term has here been arbitrarily glossed as 'oriole', but it should be kept in mind that the actual meaning is far broader.
In ornithological Inner Mongolian, Задуулай zaduulai is used for the tits (Paridae).
Уралдай uraldai is not found in ordinary dictionaries. The name is also used for the prinias and is probably a portmanteau of Уран шувуу uraŋ shuvuu wren and Гургалдай gurgaldai 'robin or 'warbler', modelled on the Chinese name 鹪莺 jiāo-yīng 'wren-warbler', which is in turn modelled on English 'wren warbler'. The name possibly reflects earlier taxonomic groupings between the Prinias and Goldcrests.
