The Thai name for the shrikes is นกอีเสือ nók ii-sĕua 'tigerbird (bird)', where อีเสือii-sĕua itself means 'tigerbird'.
This name is also used in the Thai name for the shrikebabbler (Vireonidae), นกเสือแมลง nók sĕua-ma-laeeŋ 'insect-tiger bird'.
