The Vireonidae are a New World familty with two genera in Asia: Pteruthius and Erpornis. Both used to belong to the old babbler assemblage (Timaliidae).

1. Shrike-babblers (Pteruthius) are called นกเสือแมลง nók sĕua-ma-laeeŋ 'insect-tiger bird'. This name has been influenced by the English name and recalls (นก)อีเสือ nók ii-sĕua 'tigerbird (bird)', the general name for shrikes (Laniidae). Following the break-up of the Timaliidae assemblage, this name is shared with the Gampsorhynchus shrike-babbler (Pellorneidae).

2. The Erpornis is known as นกภูหงอน nók pʰuu ŋŏaan 'crested mountain-bird', a name shared in common with the yuhinas (Zosteropidae) with which it was formerly grouped.
