The two genera in the Monarchidae are separately named in Thai.
1. นกจับแมลง nók càp-ma-laeeŋ 'insect-catcher (bird)' is used not only for Hypothymis monarchs, but also for most kinds of birds which were called "flycatcher" in English at the time these names were assigned. In addition to monarchs, these include all genera in the Muscicapinae (except Niltava); and also all species of Philentoma (Vangidae).
2. นกแซวสวรรค์ nók saeew sa-wăn 'paradise saeew bird' is used for the Terpsiphone paradise flycatchers. (Compare นกแซงแซว nók saeeŋ-saeew 'drongo (bird)' (Dicruridae).)
